As we continue to fight against of COVID-19, it is very important that we continue to take steps for self-protection, including, practicephysical distancing, wash hands as often as possible, wear a mask or face covering where mandatory or when physical distancing cannot be maintained, consider only leaving home for essential activities such as work, education and fresh air and exercise. As much as possible, residents are asked to limit contact with people not in the same household and to remain at home when ill.
Stay safe and follow Public Health advice this Halloween. Torontonians have been called to take a different approach to Halloween this year to help stop the spread of COVID-19, including recommending against door-to-door trick-or-treating. There are several fun and creative alternative ways to celebrate Halloween this year, including encouraging kids to dress up and participate in virtual activities; organize a Halloween candy hunt with people living in their own household; carving pumpkins and more.
As more and more leaves begin to fall, when clearing up fallen leaves from your property please keep roadside catch basins clear of leaves and other debris to help water enter the storm sewer.
Getting a flu shot is one of the best ways to protect yourself and others from the flu. It is especially important this year to help protect our healthcare system during COVID-19. I have noted of the three vaccination clinics across Toronto, none are in the Scarborough or Eastern Toronto area. I’ve sent a letter to Dr. de Villa outlining the urgency for a flu vaccination clinic to open in Scarborough. You can read my full letter here.
City of Toronto COVID-19 Case Update: (Data as of October 25, 2020) There has been an increase of 300 COVID-19 cases in the City of Toronto. Through the pandemic the City of Toronto has seen a total of 26,870 cases of COVID-19, of these, 22,540 cases have recovered, an increase of 259 cases from the day before. There are 132 people currently hospitalized, an increase of 17 cases from the day before. To this date, there have been 1,353 COVID-19 deaths in Toronto, an increase of 3 deaths from the day before. The City of Toronto is urging all road users to stay alert and obey the rules of the road as daylight saving time ends at 2am on Sunday November 1. The return to standard time means fewer daylight hours and reduced visibility for all road users in the city. In Toronto, pedestrian collisions increase by more than 30% during the evening commute hours from November to March. To draw attention to the increased risks facing pedestrians and cyclists, the City of Toronto has launched a city-wide public education campaign today that promotes road safety as we enter a season with reduced daylight hours. The City of Toronto partnership with Ritual Open For Business supports more than 1000 local businesses with free delivery until November 8. The Ritual ONE app was launched this spring to help local businesses across Toronto increase their commission-free online sales. All flat fee delivery charges will be waived for both customers and local businesses during this two week period to encourage customers to order directly from local businesses. City of Toronto is reopening one of its recently settled debenture offerings for an additional $250 million to help finance critical capital projects. This is the City’s fourth public debenture issuance this year and the lowest 30-year term rate the City has ever issued with an all-in cost of 2.436 per cent. This conventional bond issue, which is a reopening of a 30-year maturity with a coupon interest rate of 2.80 per cent, will mature on November 22, 2049. This reissuance brings the bond’s outstanding amount to $600 million. The proceeds from this issuance will be used to fund the completed portion of the approved capital projects from several City divisions and agencies, such as:
- Transportation Services
- Toronto Paramedic Services
- Facilities Management
- Economic Development and Culture, and
- Exhibition Place.

The Toronto Police Service would like to invite members of the public to apply for one of 12 positions on its Community Advisory Panel for Race-Based Data (RBD) Collection, Analysis and Reporting Policy. The panel will meet four times a year, starting January 2021, to provide the Service with advice on the analysis, interpretation and dissemination of Race and Identity Based Data Collection. The Toronto Police Services Board (Board) is pleased to invite members of the public to a Public Consultation on the draft Body-Worn Camera (BWC) Policy. You can provide written comments to the Board online. Submissions should be submitted no later than November 5, 2020. Submissions will form part of the public record and will be made public on the Board’s website at a later date.
Scarborough Arts wants your work for their 35th Annual Juried Exhibition! Visual art, writing, and poetry submissions are all accepted by October 30. They’re also bringing back a community favourite: THE BIG ART BOOK! Selected AJE submissions will be automatically eligible for a feature in this 2020 online publication.
