Thank you for your efforts in keeping our community safe during these difficult times. As we prepare for our second vaccination, some have yet to receive their first dose. Expected the week of June 7, 2021, individuals who received their first dose of the AstraZeneca vaccine and who choose to receive an mRNA vaccine for their second dose can register for a “second dose only” at a 12-week interval at a City-run clinic through the provincial booking system.

The Ontario government is providing updated guidance for individuals who received the first dose of the AstraZeneca vaccine and who have not yet received their second dose, to allow for the mixing of COVID-19 vaccines if desired. This decision is in alignment with updated guidance from the National Advisory Committee on Immunization (NACI) recommendation.

Toronto Police Dedicated Enforcement Teams lay over 1,500 charges during six-week initiative, Service urges continued compliance with remaining restrictions – News Release. Although the Stay-at-Home order has lifted, restrictions under the EMCPA and ROA remain in place including a limit of five people for outdoor gatherings, no indoor gatherings and the closure of restaurants and bars except for take out orders.

SHN is hosting COVID-19 Vaccine Family Pop-Up Clinics in Scarborough Guildwood this week for individuals aged 12+ who live, work or go to school in ANY Scarborough (M1) hot spot postal code – first dose appointments only. Eligible individuals can get vaccinated on Wednesday June 2 from 12pm to 8pm at West Hill Collegiate Institute or on Thursday June 3 from 12pm to 8pm at Galloway Road Public School. 23 Scarborough McDonald’s Stepping Up to Feed Our Frontliners! Beginning on June 1, 2021, and for a limited time only, a portion of the proceeds from every coffee purchased will go towards providing hot meals to Scarborough Health Network frontline health care workers at the Birchmount, Centenary and General hospitals. Today, the City of Toronto is proud to proclaim June as Pride Month in Toronto and raise the Rainbow and Transgender flags at City Hall. City of Toronto Immunization Clinic Eligibility: Last week the province announced its plans to accelerate the rollout of second doses. A full list of eligibility criteria for first and second dose appointments is available on the City’s COVID-19: How to Get Vaccinated webpage.

• Individuals aged 80+ with a confirmed second dose date at a City-run clinic are eligible to reschedule their second dose appointment for an earlier date.
• Everyone aged 12+ are encouraged to book their first dose appointment online or through the provincial booking line.

Eligible individuals can book through the provincial booking system at www.toronto.ca/covid19 or by calling 1-833-943-3900. You can also visit the VaccineTO website regularly to see if local clinics have available appointments.

COVID-19 Pharmacy Vaccine Locations & Eligibility: Select pharmacy locations in Toronto and Peel are administering the Pfizer vaccine to individuals aged 18+.

• If you received a first dose of the AstraZeneca vaccine between March 10, 2021 or later, you are eligible to book your second dose beginning the week of May 24, at an earlier interval of 12 weeks.

Anyone with questions about homebound vaccination should speak with their primary care or homecare service provider. 2021 Canada Road Safety Week Results – News Release. From Monday, May 18 to Monday, May 24, officers took part in Canada Road Safety Week by educating motorists and enforcing collision-causing behaviours. Over 3,400 tickets were issued which include nearly 2,000 speeding tickets, 600 aggressive driving tickets, 130 distracted driving tickets and over 800 others. This year’s theme was “Not Worth The Risk,” highlighting the importance of understanding the decisions we make behind the wheel.

Today is the 7^th annual Toronto Newcomer Day! First proclaimed in 2015, Toronto Newcomer Day is an annual event held in May that welcomes newcomers to the city, helps them learn about and access a range of services, and celebrates and acknowledges the many contributions they make to our city. This year, Torontonians welcomed newcomers through virtual activities and entertainment showcasing Toronto’s diverse communities. Learn more about Newcomer Day at www.toronto.ca/newcomerday.

Toronto Public Health’s COVID-19 Vaccination Town Hall for Parents/Guardians of Students (age 12-17). Dr. Vinita Dubey, Associate Medical Officer of Health, will provide a presentation and answer questions about COVID-19 vaccines available in Canada, vaccine safety and benefits, how to get vaccinated and who is eligible and ways to reduce COVID-19 spread. Vaccine Appointment booking for residents without OHIP Cards. City of Toronto COVID-19 Case Update: (Data as of May 25, 2021) There has been an increase of 1485 COVID-19 cases in the City with 944 people hospitalized. Through the pandemic the City has seen a total of 165,440 cases of COVID-19, of these, 156,175 cases have recovered. To this date, there have been 3,341 COVID-19 deaths in Toronto. City of Toronto COVID-19 Case Update: (Data as of May 12, 2021) There has been an increase of 814 COVID-19 cases in the City with 1,081 people hospitalized. Through the pandemic the City has seen a total of 158,702 cases of COVID-19, of these, 145,155 cases have recovered. To this date, there have been 3,224 COVID-19 deaths in Toronto. Case status data can be found on the City’s reporting platform.

City of Toronto COVID-19 Vaccination Update: Together, the City of Toronto, healthcare partners, pharmacies and Toronto Public Health have now administered more than one million COVID-19 vaccines. To date 1,531,418 COVID-19 vaccine doses have been administered in Toronto. Toronto is the first local health region in Canada to administer more than one million doses of vaccine. Toronto Public Health issues Section 22 Order to education providers limiting in-person attendances of school-aged children effective Monday, May 10 at 12:01 a.m. The Order is available on the City website. 

The City of Toronto remains subject to a provincial wide Stay-at-Home order. The provincial wide shutdown requires all residents to remain home except for essential purposes. I encourage everyone to review the Province’s COVID-19 public health measures and advice, the City’s Guide for Toronto Residents and Changes to City Services for the most up-to-date information on public health guidelines and regulations.

This afternoon, 2,430 new vaccination appointments between May 10 and 12 at the City of Toronto immunization clinic at Malvern Community Recreation Centre in Scarborough were added to the provincial vaccine booking system. In addition, more than 1,000 appointments have also been added on May 11 at the City-operated Metro Toronto Convention Centre clinic.

To date 1,290,708 COVID-19 vaccine doses have been administered in Toronto. Toronto is the first local health region in Canada to administer more than one million doses of vaccine. Vaccination dose data can be found on the City’s COVID-19 Vaccine Dashboard.

Education Bank COVID-19 Update: In response to the new Provincial guidelines, the Education Bank will be closed for the month of April. The Education Bank has shifted to a curb side pickup model which will allow families to select materials for pick up at the Family Service Centre.
