As we continue to fight against of COVID-19, it is very important that we continue to take steps for self-protection, including, practicephysical distancing, wash hands as often as possible, wear a mask or face covering where mandatory or when physical distancing cannot be maintained, consider only leaving home for essential activities such as work, education and fresh air and exercise. As much as possible, residents are asked to limit contact with people not in the same household and to remain at home when ill.
City of Toronto COVID-19 Case Update: (Data as of October 18, 2020) There has been an increase of 268 COVID-19 cases in the City of Toronto. Through the pandemic the City of Toronto has seen a total of 24,624 cases of COVID-19, of these, 20,803 cases have recovered, an increase of 219 cases from the day before. There are 107 people currently hospitalized, an increase of 13 cases from the day before. To this date, there have been 1,337 COVID-19 deaths in Toronto, an increase of 1 death from the day before. Case status data can be found on the City’s reporting platform. Province of Ontario status of COVID-19 Cases can be found here.
Toronto Public Health has launched two additional maps on the City’s reporting dashboard. One map shows COVID-19 per cent positivity by neighbourhood and the second shows testing rates across the city. This is in support of the City of Toronto Health Equity Plan approved by the Board of Health earlier today.
Stay safe and follow Public Health advice this Halloween, due to the “high transmission of COVID-19 in the modified Stage 2 public health unit regions of Ottawa, Peel, Toronto and York Region, traditional door-to-door trick or treating is not recommended,” Dr. Williams said today in a statement on public health advice for Halloween this year. People should consider alternative ways to celebrate, this can include encouraging kids to dress up and participate in virtual activities; organize a Halloween candy hunt with people living in their own household; carving pumpkins and more. October 19th to 25th is Waste Reduction Week in the City of Toronto. This week is held every October as a reminder of the ways everyone can reduce the amount of waste going to landfill and to raise awareness about the importance of sustainable consumption. This year, Waste Reduction Week focuses on reducing waste and maximizing resources by moving away from the take-make-and-dispose approach in favour of product longevity – known as a circular economy, renewability, reuse and repair. The City and its Community Reduce & Reuse Program partners will be hosting online workshops and events through th week on topics such as circular economy, bike repairs and swaps, sewing, community composting, food canning and recipes to reduce food waste. The Toronto Police Services Board (Board) is pleased to invite members of the public to a Public Consultation on the draft Body-Worn Camera (BWC) Policy. You can provide written comments to the Board online. Submissions should be submitted no later than November 5, 2020. Submissions will form part of the public record and will be made public on the Board’s website at a later date.
The City of Toronto is developing a Cricket Strategy to support the growth of cricket. Join a virtual public meeting on October 26 to learn more about the Strategy, ask the project team questions and share your ideas for growing the sport. They’re also bringing back a community favourite: THE BIG ART BOOK! Selected AJE submissions will be automatically eligible for a feature in this 2020 online publication.

Parent Survey on the proposed regulatory amendments to the Child Care and Early Years Act (CCEYA), 2014. The Province is reviewing the Child Care and Early Years Act and is looking for feedback on proposed changes affecting child care programs. They have provided an online report called Strengthening early years and child care in Ontario and their consultation document summarizes the proposed changes. Toronto Children’s Services is preparing the City’s response and would like to hear from you on the most significant changes that have been proposed. Please complete this survey by October 21, 2020.
