To this date, there have been\u00a02,075 COVID-19 deaths<\/strong>\u00a0in Toronto. Case status data can be found on\u00a0the City\u2019s reporting platform<\/u><\/a>. Province of Ontario status of COVID-19 Cases can be found\u00a0here.<\/u><\/a>In response to a doubling in COVID-19 cases over the past two weeks, the Ontario government has declared its second provincial emergency.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n The government will enact additional public health restrictions and actions including issuing a stay-at-home order requiring everyone to remain at home with exceptions for essential purposes, effective\u00a0Thursday January 14, 2021 at 12:01am<\/strong>.\u00a0This order and other new and existing public health restrictions and actions<\/strong>\u00a0are aimed at limiting people\u2019s mobility and reducing the number of daily contacts with those outside an immediate household.Additional Public Health restrictions\u00a0<\/strong>include limited shopping hours from 7am to 8pm, reducing outdoor gathering limits from 10 to five people, and limiting office spaces to essential personnel, ensuring that employees who can work from home do so. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Restricted shopping hours do not affect groceries, pharmacies, gas stations, convenience stores and restaurants for take out and delivery.\u00a0New enforcement measures\u00a0<\/strong>under the declaration of a provincial emergency provide authority to all enforcement and provincial offences officers to issue tickets to individuals who do not comply with the stay-at-home order, those not wearing a mask or face covering indoors, and or to retail operators and companies who do not enforce these measures.\u00a0Schools in Toronto, Peel Region, York, Hamilton and Windsor-Essex<\/strong>\u00a0public health units will not return to in-person instruction until\u00a0February 10, 2021<\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n New health and safety measures will be implemented in Ontario childcare settings, such as enhanced screening, voluntary participation in targeted testing and additional infection prevention control measures.
