It was found that\nseized illegal weapons often make way back onto city streets, which should not\nbe occurring. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As a result, requests to the Toronto Police Service (TPS) Board,\nthe Ontario Provincial Police and the Province of Ontario were made to adopt\nand implement the necessary measures for an elimination procedure of illegal\nguns and ammunition confiscated by law enforcement agencies. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It was also adopted that the City Manager would report back to\nCity Council during the first quarter of 2019 on the implementation of this\nseize and destroy procedure. More on this motion can be found <a href=\"https:\/\/www.toronto.ca\/legdocs\/mmis\/2018\/mm\/bgrd\/backgroundfile-118860.pdf\">here.<\/a>\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At this week&#8217;s Executive Committee meeting, the motion for City\nPowers to Regulate Firearms and Ammunition and Update on Related Initiatives\nwas adopted without amendments. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This item recommends a number of requests to the Government of\nCanada to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Ban the sale of handguns in the City\nof Toronto<\/li><li>Implement a tougher screening for\nmental health and intimate partner violence issues for licensed gun owners and\nthose seeking to acquire firearms permits <\/li><li>Control handguns coming into Canada along\nthe American and Canadian border<\/li><li>Include tougher penalties including\nmandatory-minimum sentences for gun traffickers <\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>With requests made to the Government of Ontario to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Ban the sale of handgun ammunition in\nthe City of Toronto<\/li><li>Legislate a suspension of the Alcohol\nand Gaming Commission liquor license for establishments where the TPS has\nevidence of multiple gun-related offences on the premises <\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>More information on this motion can be accessed <a href=\"http:\/\/app.toronto.ca\/tmmis\/viewAgendaItemHistory.do?item=2019.EX6.7\">here.<\/a>\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I feel strongly on the matter of protecting Toronto&#8217;s communities\nand find that this is a good vehicle to stronger voice that guns are not\nwelcome in the City of Toronto. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This item is to be heard for final approval at the June 18<sup>th<\/sup>,\n2019 meeting of City Council.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>All my Best<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Paul <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Dear Ward 24 Residents In July 2018, Toronto City Council heard and adopted a motion I put forward for the seizure and destruction of illegal guns.
