Councillor Paul Ainslie Donates Cost of Living to Community
April 2, 2009- Councillor Paul Ainslie (Ward 43 Scarborough East) has donated his Cost of Living Adjustment (COLA) directly to the local community, through contributions to Rouge Valley Health System Foundation, The Toronto Public Library Foundation and The Rotary Club of Scarborough; three organizations which contribute a broad spectrum of programs to Scarborough.
Understanding the hardships of many who are experiencing the effects of the economic downturn, Councillor Ainslie felt it was unacceptable to receive his COLA. Following City policy, it was donated to the community. He wants to support the organizations serving his community. Councillor Ainslie noted "I was given the option to donate the funds back to City of Toronto directed charities, but this way I know the funds have reached community organizations directly assisting my residents."
"Whether the donation was made back to the City or directly to organizations had the same relevance economically. I wanted to ensure they reached organizations which will benefit Scarborough" Councillor Ainslie added.
Very prudent with his office budget, Councillor Ainslie spent $29,979.41 of his $53,100.00 Council office budget for the 2008 year. A savings to the City of over $24,000.
